So July the 4th ended up being an amazing day.
I wasn't exactly sure what to expect but by the end of the day I was left feeling this whole trip is enchanted.
It was a slow starter but by mid day there were a few people rounded up that planned on working across Chicago to find fireworks, the beach, parties, rooftops etc. Those were the ideas and suggestions anyway.
We jumped around a few bars in various neighbourhoods that I couldn't tell the names of. Eventually it was decided that we would go and meet someone's friend in a high rise downtown to watch the big fireworks display from a balcony.
We arrived with 30 minutes to go and all crammed on to a small balcony on the 38th floor. An even bigger building opposite obscured our view but that didn't matter as I was told that was where we were going in a minute.
So we flew back down, and then up the elevator of the next building, to the 68th floor of the ..?... tower.
We walked into an even more beautiful flat with pamoramic views of the city. Outside the balcony stretched around the entire apartment. 50 people could have easily fitted out there but there were just 8 of us. Fireworks could be seen at every corner of the city. It was breathtaking. Three of the people we were with were musicians and played their guitars and sang for a while which just added to the whole experience.
I have been invited to stay here for a night tonight so I have a base downtown, to do some exploring downtown, which was an offer I couldn't refuse.
I'm sure I will be hitting the road tomorrow though ;)
